Six Months of Dreaming – the folding Screen

Charlotte Cory’s novel, Six Months of Dreaming  imagines the story of Yutaka Kajikawa, an ambitious young Japanese artist who hopes to find success with his ‘Jazz Age’ necktie designs in the West.  When he hears that the celebrated aristocratic journalist, the extravagantly named Lady Grace Hay Drummond-Hay, is visiting Japan on the much vaunted, somewhat perilous (some might say foolish!)  first Round the World Flight of an airship, the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin, he feels Destiny is taking a hand.  He writes to the English Lady, care/of the airport at Lake Kasumigaura,  explaining his artistic ambitions and asking her help in realising his dreams.

To celebrate the collaboration between the artist of 90+ years ago and on the other side of the globe, Charlotte Cory has created a folding screen of Japanese Visitorians.
